Nitrogen and Phosphorus Budgeting

Every cane grower needs an N&P budget. We build the kind that does more than tick the box — zone-by-zone budgets that show you where your fertiliser is working, where it's wasted, and what your soil is doing over time. Across the Burdekin, Herbert, Mackay and Far North.

WHY GROWERS PICK FARMACIST

What goes into a
premium budget

Four things a free or off-the-shelf budget doesn’t do — and the reason ours pays for itself in fertiliser saved and yield held.

We read the whole paddock, not one sample

01 — Whole-farm, data-rich analysis

We read the whole paddock, not one sample

Regional soils mapping, GNDVI satellite imagery, soil mapping and georeferenced soil tests are layered together to find the real zones inside each block.

02 — A budget that remembers

Track how your soil changes, season on season

Because every test is tied to an exact location, we re-sample the same points year after year to build a trend line.

We fix the paddock, not just the rate

03 — Agronomy beyond the bag

We fix the paddock, not just the rate

Fallow block recommendations, ameliorant strategies and land levelling surveys all become part of the budget.

Review

Re-sample & refine each season to track change.

The choice every grower makes

Your budget is mandatory. Making it count isn't.

Under the reef regulations, every cane farm in regulated regions needs a verified N&P budget, with rates calculated per block or zone and not exceeded. That part is mandatory. The difference is whether the budget is simply meeting compliance requirements, or actually being used to make better fertiliser and profitability decisions.

The compliance minimum

Gets you legal, once a year
Meets reef regulations
Block-level N & P rates
A single soil snapshot
A budget you file away
What we build

A whole-farm management tool

Works for you every season
Meets reef regulations
Sub-block management zones, not whole-block averages
Georeferenced tests that track soil change over time
Fixes constraints — fallow, ameliorants & levelling included
Independent — we don't sell you the fertiliser
Application maps & shapefiles straight to the tractor

COMMON QUESTIONS

N&P budgets, answered

If you grow cane in the Wet Tropics, Burdekin, Mackay Whitsunday, Fitzroy or Burnett Mary catchments, yes. Under the reef regulations you must have a farm N&P budget for the property, verified by an appropriate person, and your application rates can't exceed it. We handle the whole process and make sure it's done right.

An appropriate person is a qualified agronomist or similar professional recognised under the reef regulations. Farmacist budgets are verified by one of our 35 accredited agronomists so you're covered.

A Farmacist budget is site-specific, verified, reef-regulation compliant, and backed by agronomic expertise — so you're not just ticking a box, you're optimising inputs.

No. We dont sell fertiliser. The N&P budget is independent advice. You can source fertiliser wherever you like — we just make sure your rates are right.

Yes. We can generate variable-rate prescription maps based on your paddock data so different zones receive the right amount rather than a blanket rate. We will only generate variabler rate when we have an appropiate amount of data for the paddock.

Budgets must be updated at least annually under reef regulations. Each year you need to soil test your fallow blocks prior to planting cane. We'll remind you of your obligations under reef compliance.

Yes, as part of our N and P budget servicecs, we can provide a number of methods to help you keep your records throughout the year, and maintain a copy for compliance audits.

If selected as part of your package, our agronomists will provide audit support. This means making sure that all the appropiate paperwork is ready for audit and being there with you on the day.
